A glorious day to visit this beautiful little beach on the Antrim coast. A scenic journey around the coastline to this spot where locals come to enjoy the swimming.
Air temperature was 27°C and water temperature was 14°C, so wonderful conditions for this swim. I am not acclimatised to the cold, but found it quite easy to get into the water and swim for about 20 minutes.
The sea looked teal and turquoise from the shore with an Easterly breeze that brought white horses breaking on the surface from time to time. While in the water it appeared brown with soft fronds of seaweed sweeping into the shallow waters. The sea gets deeper quickly and then shallow again as there is a sand bank further out.
I went out with my sister and niece and we were able to swap memories and enjoy the buoyancy of the briny water. It was so therapeutic to swim in the crystal waters of the Irish Sea. The waves came towards us in two directions- from the seaward aspect and also from across the bay so the swell was from two directions. It is a bit mysterious why the cold water has such a good effect on our inner mood. Some swim every day to enjoy the benefits of it and the feeling of freedom that it promotes. I made good memories today and will cherish them as I head back to the city…
